Boston Kelly is a player with the world at his feet and he is the Hawks male player of the month for June 2021.
Boston can step off both feet and can burn a defender before they even know they have missed the touch with his footwork. He is the youngest sibling of the Kelly family and has grown up watching his three older sisters playing for the Hawks (see pictures attached). A talented league player for the Holy Cross Rhinos and rep baseballer for Ryde Eastwood Hawks, many good judges feel that touch football could be his best sport. For a player so young, he has great vision, speed and silky skills that have developed over his first three Junior State Cup touch campaigns. Boston has been a part of the team that began in U/8s and is now the mighty u/10s team. This team has made the Grand Final (u/8s) and a semi-final (u/10s) in Port Macquarie. In helping the team to do so well, Boston has won two Hawk Medals as the coveted player of the team. Whilst he still has a long way to go in his career, the vision, speed, skills, footwork and determination have plenty of good judges in the district comparing him to a young Ryan Papenhuyzen. He has been very fortunate to be mentored by Wests Tigers premiership winner Ben Galea and Australian Touch Coach Pat Batiste. Both coaches both spoke glowingly about his attitude, speed, desire and never say die attitude. His understanding of the game and his ability to execute the plays on the field is another trait both coaches spoke about. ‘Boston is a true competitor and a pleasure to coach. He has the skills and ability as a player (and a person) to go all the way in his career if he continues to develop at the rate he is at now. it is hard to believe he is so young when you watch him play with that touch knowledge and awareness’ Congratulations to Boston on being the Hawks Male Player of the month for June, 2021. The Hawks Female Player of the Month is Georgia Southcombe.
Georgia is a player of the future for the Hawks due to her determination, speed and leadership. Named as Captain of our 14 girls last season, she led from the front with her actions and her outstanding leadership qualities impressed plenty of good judges. Georgia also made our girls youth Vawdon Cup Squad last season and held her own against much older opposition. Georgia is already a veteran of five Junior State Cup tournaments and has made her mark with the Hawks with her speed and fitness. Her skills and knowledge of the game are improving with every tournament and her greatest asset is her undeniable determination. At the recent JSC in Port Macquarie, Georgia was a standout for our 14 girls squad dominating in the middle, growing in confidence and skill with every game. “Georgia is a born and fearless leader. She is focused, determined and hard working. Couple that with natural talent and a maturity beyond her years, Georgia is going to make some noise in the touch fraternity. Something that the Sydney Scorpions talent ID already picked up on last season when they selected her for the 14s Scorpions squad. Georgia has great game vision and will spot and exploit opportunities with speed and agility. She is a great playmaker who is also not afraid to put her body on the line in attack or defence and she always leads by example. Every team needs a Georgia.” quoted Renee Quirk who has coached Georgia over recent seasons. Georgia's other sporting passion in life is netball and she plays reps for ERNA until touch football takes control in the summer months. Georgia is a player to watch in the future and a player who is tipped for higher honours. Congratulations to Georgia on being the Hawks Female Player of the Month for June.
