On 20 December, following your game, Ryde Eastwood Hawks Touch in conjunction with the Putney Club will be putting on drinks and food at the "Fountain on the Mountain" (Putney Club).
Each team will receive some drink vouchers and food will be served throughout the night. This is a great chance for your team to get together. We hope to see you there. The free Conti Strata Mini Hawks ‘Learn before you play’ junior program proudly supported by City of Ryde Council has wrapped up for the year.
Started several years ago but revamped in 2020, the free six-week program aimed at 4 – 9 year-old’s has gone from strength to strength and is a big hit among local families with over 70 children enrolling this year. The participants and their families all had a great time and this was in no small part due to the efforts of the tireless volunteers of the club and the expertise of CSP Athlete Factory who supplied professional coaches. Special mention to Ron White for his weekly effort of brilliantly barbecuing the sausages generously supplied by The Meat Boutique in the Midway Shops. Also, thanks to Chris Hopper for putting together the photos and certificates for each of the children and to Cheyne Harrison for his passion to get this program to where it is today. Besides the certificates and the photos each child received a Hawks singlet and was provided with a sausage sizzle each week. A great deal that is only possible due to Conti Strata and City of Ryde Council. Participant survey results Impressively, 87% of children attended every session and 83% of parents who enlisted their children in the program rated it as ‘great’. Feedback from survey referred to it as “a fabulous program that encourages children to learn the basic skills of touch and be active. Highly recommended with coaches who were fabulous. A well organised and run community initiative.” While some children will now progress to play in older age groups next season, some 75% of respondents said their child would “return for sure in 2022”. Josie Bee is our female player of the month for December.
In her eight years at the Hawks, she has built a reputation as a not only a wonderful player but a player that other players want to play with. She has also won multiple awards over the years including the Hawks Medal in the recent Vawdon Cup Premiership winning team. Josie is a player that the Hawks hierarchy are looking to build a Premier League team around. She is a natural leader and always leads from the front at training and on game day with her actions and her outstanding leadership qualities have impressed plenty of good judges. She regularly displays these qualities as she inspires the girls with her never give up attitude and desire to win. Her skills and knowledge of the game are improving with every tournament and her greatest asset is her undenied deep thinking of the game and determination. Josie began her career back when she was a standout in the Balmain Junior League as a crafty halfback and a tenacious defender. She has also played for the Wests Tigers and Bulldogs in the NRLW Pathway programs before now turning her skills to Rugby Union during the Winter months. Two of Josie's recent mentors provided some quotes about Josie and they were nearly identical:
