The Hawks Female Player of the Month is Jacqueline Pawsey.
Jacqueline is a player with the world at her feet. She can step off both feet, has speed to burn and is a born leader with her deep thinking and knowledge of touch playing as a link. All at the age of 10…. A student at North Ryde Public, Jacqueline started playing touch at age 8 in the Monday night competition in her older sisters team (Jacq is the youngest of three girls). Despite being 3 years younger than the rest of the team, she enjoyed playing as it involved lots of running. Like many younger siblings, this is where it starts! Whilst she mixes it with other sports during the Winter months, Jacqueline has made her mark in Port Macquarie and has really dominated her first two seasons of rep touch football with the Hawks. Many good judges noticed her impact in the u/10s team that last year remained undefeated until weather ruined the tournament. Jacq loves all sports including little athletics, soccer, swimming and has represented at higher levels for PSSA Zone. In 2019 when there was a clash with Junior State Cup and Athletics Regionals, she flew between Sydney and Port Macquarie so she could compete at both events. What commitment! Whilst she still has a long way to go in her career, the skills and ability she has at such a young age will hold her in good stead for the future to push for higher honours. Her coaches love coaching her and only have to explain something once for her to understand. Even better than understanding it, she will execute these plays on the field and has the ability to lift other players around her. One of her coaches Jordan Kelly added 'Jacqueline is a true competitor and a pleasure to coach. She is a player who could go all the way in her career if she continues to develop at the rate she is at now. Hard to believe she is so young with all of that talent and skill'. Congratulations to Jacqueline on being the Hawks Female player of the month. Matthew Wilson who is our Hawks Male Player of the Month for November.
How many times have you heard someone say, “have you seen this kid play, he is a freak”!! Well we wish that we had a dollar for every time someone said that about Matt. A player who has speed to burn and an ability to turn games with a trick play that everyone knows is coming but just can’t stop. On the field, he has established himself as one of the best players at any level. Dominating through the junior ranks and quickly moving through to Premier League, Scorpions, NSW State of Origin and Australia after his consistent performances over a long period. Off the field, he has also forged a league career and now plays AFL professionally after working his way through the Sydney Swans Academy. Below are Matt’s career highlights so far:
Barry Gibson has been a close mentor and coach of Matts for over a decade. It is a testament to Barry that these players play for him and Matt has learnt plenty off Baz. Matt was quoted as saying “Barry has been a driving force in my career and so many others. We stay together as our desire is now to win a Premier League title! I have enjoyed being coached by the greatest coach I have ever known. He has so much knowledge of the game and has shown me how to be the best player I can be and that has made me a better player and a better person”. Matt eats, sleeps and breaths Hawks culture and is widely considered as the GOAT by his team mates. He is so humble in his approach, he is one of those players every Club needs.
