Congratulations to our Hawks Sponsor of the Month for October - Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club.
A long term sponsor of the Ryde Eastwood Hawks Touch Football Club and a wonderful contributor to the entire community. Our Club is very fortunate to partner with the Leagues Club and the Football Club to deliver our local competitions and rep program. Our rep players proudly wear the Hawks logo on all of our playing uniforms for Vawdon Cup, Senior State Cup and Junior State Cup. This facility / club has everything you require including functions spaces (large and small), restaurants, swimming lessons, holiday units, sports bars, fitness gym, sports bars, cafes, gaming rooms and much more!! Talk about history, below is a snapshot of their story: In 1963 ten men joined together to form the Ryde-Eastwood District Rugby League Football Club, their aspiration to field a football team in first division and to build up support within the community. It wasn’t long before it was realised that to compete at that level would require the support of a licensed Club and thus also in 1963 Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club was formed. After securing a lease on premises in Ryedale Rd owned by Simpson Pope Washing Machines, and previously the home of the Holeproof women’s apparel factory, the board decided to apply for a liquor licence. With opposition from local hotels, the Club’s application was rejected twice, and the process of applying for a licence took nearly seven years. A core group of 250 Foundation members (whose names are on display within the Club), as well as various NSW Leagues Clubs provided financial support to enable the Club to meet its obligations (which included substantial legal bills) and survive during these seven years. The board finally won its legal battle, which included a change to case law and were granted a licence. The original premises was purchased by the NSWRL on behalf of the Football Club, and on 19th December 1970 Mr Bill Buckley, President of the New South Wales Rugby League, opened the Club. The Club had 40 poker machines and was enthusiastically supported by the local community. By 1974 the Club was able to purchase adjoining factories and the Club’s membership had grown to 15,000. In 1979 the Club commenced a 3.5 million dollar extension, including additional car parking facilities, bistro facilities and an auditorium. A gas explosion caused almost a million dollars’ worth of damage and delayed the opening of some of the Club’s facilities for almost a year. Since then the Club has moved along a path of consolidation, purchasing properties in the local area and trying to ensure that all future plans for expansion are self-funding. The Club was again extensively renovated in the late 1980s and in 1990 Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club won the NSW Club Industry “Club of the Year” award. In 1994 plans commenced for the acquisition of an adjoining property (Coopers Tank Works) and a $22 million project of development and refurbishment. This was completed in 1999. Membership increased from 22,000 in November 1996 to over 35,000 in June 1999. Current membership fluctuates between 30,000 and 35,000 dependent on the time of the year. Over the years the Club has strengthened its affiliations with the local community, supporting many different sporting groups and local charities. The spirit of friendship, support and determination that brought this Club into being in 1963 continues today. On the football side, the Ryde-Eastwood District Rugby League Football Club successfully competed in many competitions from 1963 to 2004 in their own right and are now a force again in the NSWRL competitions. So how can our families help support the Club:

DUTY REFEREES
FIELDS
This is a new acknowledgement that recognises the invaluable work that referees contribute to the Ryde Eastwood Hawks Touch Football Club Competitions.
The inaugural referee to be recognised is Jack Woods. Jack first refereed back in 2018 in our Junior Competition. Although Jack was quietly spoken, right from the first whistle to commence the game, Jack displayed an air of confidence and control as he officiated the contest. As well as being quite competent with the rules and hand signals, Jack also displayed an excellent understanding of the flow of the game, by frequently assisting our junior players (some of who were playing in their initial competitions), with constant communication and “coaching” whilst refereeing. Jack always takes on board any constructive feedback provided to him by our senior referees when they do an assessment of his performances. He strives to constantly improve his competence as a referee. Before long Jack was promoted to referee in the Senior competitions, gaining official accreditation by NSW Touch to a level 1 certified referee in 2019. Jack can always be relied on to turn up on time, assist with the setup of the ovals, and is usually one of the last to leave by helping out to clean up and pack away the gear after the games. Apart from refereeing in both the Junior and Senior competitions, Jack also offers to help out when it comes to our representative commitments. These commitments range from gala days, to our Vawdon Cup competitions and to attending out State Cup weekends. Jack recently progressed to a Level 2 certified referee after refereeing at the Vawdon Cup. It is a significant achievement to referee in a senior tournament as a junior referee. The club has no doubt he will continue to progress through the grades to become a very accomplished referee in the future. We know that Jacks parents are very proud of his achievements, and have seen an incredible growth in his confidence and maturity over the period of his refereeing. This is a well-deserved recognition of one of our outstanding referees. Congratulations Jack. Great news.

The following items are considered when determining the teams to be accepted and the grading of teams: · Payment of fees. · Team strength and compatibility (relative to grade strength) · Prior history with Ryde Eastwood (e.g. payment of fees, adherence to code of ethics + uniform policy + duty requirements) Competition Requirements: Please note the following important competition requirements · Player registration this year will use the electronic registration system that has been developed by Touch Football Australia. Use of the electronic registration system is a requirement for Ryde Eastwood to remain affiliated with NSW Touch. Sign on sheets will be based on the players registered in the system. If you have not done the electronic registration, any games you play prior to registration will not count towards achieving the final series requirement. Following a number of complaints last year about the eligibility of players in the finals series, we are continuing the system used in the winter competition this year and monitoring games to ensure only registered players are participating. · Team uniforms – By Round 4 o Teams must be dressed in a team uniform o Shirts can be any colour or combination of colours. o Shirts to have a number on the back (min of 16cms) that is clearly visible. (Taped numbers are not acceptable.) o Numbers are to be unique (i.e. No two numbers are to be the same) o No uniform, no number, NO PLAY, no exceptions o Further announcements will be made about this at the managers meeting. · Duty Requirements o Each team will need to supply 2 referees for a maximum of 3 nights throughout the year. o It is anticipated that official referees will be provided for the vast majority of games. However, the purpose of these requirements is to ensure that in the rare cases where this is not the case, that there are sufficient referees to run the competition. o Teams that do not provide Duty Refs on the allocated day and on time will be penalised 3 competition points. A referees’ sign on sheet will be available for completion to verify the duty referees’ attendance. · Referee abuse will not be tolerated · Code of Ethics o Ryde Eastwood has adopted the Touch Football Australia (TFA) Code of Ethics. It is a requirement that teams, players, officials and spectators abide by this code. Should you have any queries, please contact [email protected] 2021 Junior Competition update

The difference between the $100 and the value of the rego fee will be forfeited. If anyone is having trouble determining the team fee when Active Kids vouchers are involved, please let me know and I will do the calculation for you. Singlets As usual, all players MUST wear the Hawks reversible playing singlets. For new players or past players that need new singlets these will be available for purchase for $25. (A sizing chart is attached.) There will be a singlet distribution night on Thursday 21st October between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM at Morrison Bay Park sheds. In line with COVID-19 guidelines we are trying to limit physical contact and we are requesting that singlets be paid in advance via EFT to the Ryde Eastwood account. As with the rego fees the transaction should include details to enable easy identification. We are also asking for teams to arrange for a single person to pick up the singlets for a team rather than each person come to the singlet distribution night. To assist with the process, it would be appreciated if the singlet requirement form attached to this email could be completed and returned by Monday 18 October so that singlets can be packaged prior to the collection evening. Player Registration Player registration this year will again use the electronic registration system that has been developed by Touch Football Australia. Use of the electronic registration system is a requirement for Ryde Eastwood to remain affiliated with NSW Touch. This has always been important but with the introduction of tracing requirements for COVID-19 it is essential. Web Help Article: MySideline Manager for Touch Football Player placement As has happened in previous seasons, we are lucky enough to have Martin Mulcare looking after the placement of people looking for teams. If Martin contacts you to find out if you need additional players, please give his request due consideration. The more people we are able to get to play Touch the better off we will all be. Malakai Latilevu is our Hawks Male Player of the Month for October
The Player of the Month awards are an initiative of the Club to showcase some of our emerging talent. Malakai is a perfect example of a player who has talent and is certainly one to watch. Malakai’s rep touch footy career started in 2012 when he played in the 10’s for the Hawks and he recently represented our Club in his first year of the 18s boys division. Malakai is a committed member of our Club playing in our Summer and Winter Competitions as well as representing the club at JSC and Vawdon Cup. He also referees in the local competition. He has been selected in the Sydney Scorpions representative program throughout the past four years. His selection at the higher level did not surprise our coaches who know he possesses the skills and talent required to play at that next level. Malakai is a team player who has speed to burn combined with undeniable athletic ability but more importantly he is a player who always gives 110 percent to his team and the Club. His ability to connect a team on and off the field is a special talent that not many players enjoy. It is fair to say he is one of the most popular players in the Hawks Club. He has also earned the respect of his fellow players, club members and coaches through his willingness to always give his best at training and during games. As Malakai prepares for his last JSC in 2022, our Hawks senior coaching staff have already identified him as a player who will make the transition into Premier League over the next three seasons. Over his years with the club he has been presented with a host of “player’s player awards” and Hawks Medals. He is also consistently encouraging his sister Eleni to continue her development as a touch player and her improvement has been unbelievable. Hawks Head Coach and Coaching Director Barry Gibson said that “Malakai has the world at his feet and will progress up the ranks rapidly if he continues to apply himself to training and to the Club. When he continues to learn about playing at the next level (against men), he will make the transition into Premier League with ease based on his skill level. Certainly a player of the future for us”. Congratulations to Malakai on being the Hawks male player of the month for October. |
