Portia Amy-Wilson wins "jack liston medal" for 2020

23/4/2020

Congratulations to Portia on winning our ‘Jack Liston Medal’  for 2020.

Portia has won the prestigious award named in honour of Hawks coach and touch football legend Jack Liston. Jack played at the highest level over a career that spanned across 30 years and our Club was lucky enough to have him coach some of our junior teams!

This award is chosen from a list of players who go above the call of duty for their team and for epitomising our Hawks culture and values.

Portia was awarded this medal for her dedication to the Club by being a mentor for the younger age groups combined with being a referee, coach and player for Ryde Eastwood Hawks.

Portia has been playing for the Hawks for the last 6 years and has consistently contributed to the club on and off the field. She was  instrumental in organising a girls Vawdon Cup youth team. She also referees in the local Monday night comp and rep gala days, coached the 10s girls development squad (when they needed a coach) and played in our all-conquering 18 girls side.

It has definitely been a very busy year all round for Portia.

Portia is looking to continue working hard and to be heavily involved in the Club throughout the future years. She is hoping to progress into coaching and mentoring roles at junior levels. On her playing ambitions, she is looking to move into higher levels for the Hawks including Premier League and potentially the NRL Touch Premiership over the next three seasons..

The dedication and hard work put in by Portia made her a front runner for this award and is well deserved. Congratulations also to other valued nominees. The other nominees, who are seen in the picture below, were:

  • Elise Hopper
  • Jaxon Galea
  • Riley Bourne
