This is a new acknowledgement that recognises the invaluable work that referees contribute to the Ryde Eastwood Hawks Touch Football Club Competitions.
The inaugural referee to be recognised is Jack Woods. Jack first refereed back in 2018 in our Junior Competition. Although Jack was quietly spoken, right from the first whistle to commence the game, Jack displayed an air of confidence and control as he officiated the contest. As well as being quite competent with the rules and hand signals, Jack also displayed an excellent understanding of the flow of the game, by frequently assisting our junior players (some of who were playing in their initial competitions), with constant communication and “coaching” whilst refereeing. Jack always takes on board any constructive feedback provided to him by our senior referees when they do an assessment of his performances. He strives to constantly improve his competence as a referee. Before long Jack was promoted to referee in the Senior competitions, gaining official accreditation by NSW Touch to a level 1 certified referee in 2019. Jack can always be relied on to turn up on time, assist with the setup of the ovals, and is usually one of the last to leave by helping out to clean up and pack away the gear after the games. Apart from refereeing in both the Junior and Senior competitions, Jack also offers to help out when it comes to our representative commitments. These commitments range from gala days, to our Vawdon Cup competitions and to attending out State Cup weekends. Jack recently progressed to a Level 2 certified referee after refereeing at the Vawdon Cup. It is a significant achievement to referee in a senior tournament as a junior referee. The club has no doubt he will continue to progress through the grades to become a very accomplished referee in the future. We know that Jacks parents are very proud of his achievements, and have seen an incredible growth in his confidence and maturity over the period of his refereeing. This is a well-deserved recognition of one of our outstanding referees. Congratulations Jack. Comments are closed.
