The Ryde Eastwood Hawks won the Vawdon Cup third division women’s competition on Friday night against South Sydney.
After playing a draw with Souths during the season proper, we knew it was going to be a tough final. The Hawks girls rose to the challenge and played well during the Grand Final to record a 4 – 2 victory. The Hawks jumped to a 2 – 0 early lead and were able to maintain that for the majority of the first half. Their motto of defence wins Grand Finals was very true and every girls excelled in their defence. Another two tries in the second half were enough for the girls to win the title. A fitting Grand Final as both teams were strong across the park and deserved to play in the last match of the tournament. Special thanks to team coach Mark Donkin for his tireless efforts in building this squad and to his staff of Andrew Goggin, Tonia Amy and Renee Quirk. Our Club would also like to acknowledge NSWTA who were able to deliver a Vawdon Cup tournament (as a condensed version) during these difficult times. The girls will now focus their energy into playing 20s at Senior State Cup in early December. Congratulations girls! Comments are closed.
